Magistrate Eremye to Visit Luzira over Besigye’s Complaints

The nakawa chief magistrate James Eremye has this morning promised to visit Luzira maximum prison next week, to ascertain claims by opposition leader Kiiza Besigye’s claims that he is being mistreated.

The nakawa chief magistrate James Eremye has this morning promised to visit Luzira maximum prison next week, to ascertain claims by opposition leader Kiiza Besigye’s claims that he is being mistreated.

The development comes after Dr. Besigye took to the dock this morning at Nakawa Magistrate’s court and told the nation that his Ramadhan message to his people was blocked by the prison authorities - infringing on his rights.

Besigye says he is also concerned about the delayed investigations into his treason case. “I'm extremely disturbed by the delayed investigation in this [treason] case. If they've any case at all let them present it to court.”

Besigye told Nakawa Court that he thought he is innocent until proven guilty but he is being treated as 'guilty' by Prison authorities.

Nakawa Chief Magistrate James Eremye 'agreed with Besigye arguing that investigations into his case has been delayed and should be expedited.

Chief Magistrate Eremye says judiciary is also concerned by Besigye's rights abuse concerns and he will visit Luzira prison next week on his concerns that his people are blocked from court. He told Besigye that court space is limited and police instructions should be respected

Meanwhile, prosecution appealed for more time to carry out more investigations into the treason case. The judge equally adjourned the case until July 13th.
