The former minister of security Mary Karooro Okrut has today handed over the office to the new office bearer and Minister Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde.

The event was held this morning at the Minister's Boardroom office of the President and overseen by the minister for presidency Hon. Esther Mbayo and the permanent secretary office of the president Deborah Katuramu.

Hon. Okrut is now the minister in charge of general duties office of the Prime minister.

During the ceremony, she thanked the president for entrusting her with such an important docket of security which she says Ugandans never trusted her to manage.

Hon. Okrut explains that security begins with the citizens. She thanked Ugandans also who helped her during the tenure. She later welcomed minister Tumukunde, promising that her former staff works as a team, and they will be of great importance to him.

“Hon. Tumukunde, I welcome you to the ministry. The staff here that I have been working with work as a team; And that is one of the most important aspects in any working place. I have not had any problem with any of them because they have been working as a team” said Hon. Okurut.

She added that one cannot carry the whole load of security issues alone.

On the other hand, Lt. Gen. Tumukunde promised to work with the media/ Fourth Estate saying the press is a grant source of information to intelligence.

“I rely on you, and I will open my doors to make sure that whatever you have about the country, we may also have to know,” Said Tumukunde.

He promised to give the press a liaison contact connecting them to his office.

The handover ceremonies were slated to begin last evening after the swearing in ceremony at State house. Tomorrow, Frank Tumwebaze, the new ICT minister will hand over two ministries of Presidency and Kampala to the newly sworn in bearers.
