The Kampala capital city Authority, KCCA Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has this morning appointed Makindye Councilor Sarah Kanyike his deputy Mayor for the next 5 years of office.

Two candidates had initially showed interest in the job and these were Sarah Kanyike and Kawempe North Councila Mohammed Segirinya.

However, Lukwago chose Kanyike in a move that many thought was meant to balance leadership between men and women at the authority.

Section 9(3) of KCCA Act empowers the lord mayor to appoint his deputy from among the members of the Authority, with the approval of the Authority.

Kanyike was unanimously seconded and approved by the 34 authority councilors.

She was described by her colleagues as a good mobiliser, a high caliber administrator who can serve in any organization harmoniously, and an individual with ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimum supervision and a people person, result oriented, responsive to change with very good leadership and interpersonal skills and a good public speaker.

Shortly after her approval, Kanyike promised to work to fulfill the trust placed upon her by the Lord Mayor and authority councilors.

She promised to work hard in order to serve the people of Kampala and Uganda diligently during her tenure in office.
