The race for deputy Speakership of the 10th Parliament is becoming hotter with two more strong candidates showing interest.

Today, the Kampala Central Member of parliament Mohammed Nsereko, and his Ndorwa West counterpart, also minister, David Bahati have entered the already hot race for the position.

Other contenders include Monicah Amoding, Jovah Kamateeka, Abbas Agaba and Denis Obua.
At around 11 am this morning, Bahati picked the expression of interest forms from the National Resistance Movement-NRM party Electoral Commission where he was received by NRM EC chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi, who handed him forms.

Upon receiving the papers, Bahati said he is so experienced in matters of legislature and has support from his fellow legislators.

Meanwhile, the Kampala Central MP Mohammed Nsereko, told the media at Parliament today that he is ready to tussle it out with NRM candidates for the position of Deputy Speaker.

His comment came after the NRM party EC chairperson Dr. Odoi Tanga swore that the position would never be handed over to an independent.
Nsereko, one of the four rebel MPs fell out with the NRM party when it disowned him alongside Theodore Sekikubo, Wilfred Niwagaba and Barnabas Tinkasiimire.

Nsereko argues that even though the party has numerical strength in Parliament, it will not stop him from lobbying for support within NRM and other political parties.

The aspirants must return the expression of interest forms to the NRM party Electoral Commission by close of business tomorrow Friday.

He explained that his experience as NRM caucus deputy chairman, treasurer and deputy chief whip among others are a huge boost to his credentials as a leader.

Dr. Tanga hailed Bahati for not campaigning openly for the position like other contenders. He urged him to wait until the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) vets candidates on Monday next week.

He further cautioned Independents interested in vying for the positions not to bother, saying NRM will use its numbers to win the positions.
