Anti-riot police was this afternoon involved in running battles with angry residents of Kasana Luweero who were protesting consistent power outages.
According to reports, the ugly scenes this afternoon started when residents attempted to block the Gulu highway as a way of making a point to the responsible authorities.
The extremely angry residents, armed with placards, mounted barricades along Kampala-Gulu highway for close to 30 minutes at Kasana trading centre, where one of the transformers was reported to be faulty.

Police led by the acting Officer in Charge of Luweero Police Station Enos Achwamu would later fire teargas to disperse the rowdy residents whom they blamed for paralyzing transport and using the wrong forum to address their grievances.

According to Lameck Kigozi the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson, Umeme office in Bombo was called in to address the concerns raised by the protestors, calming them instantly. The area has not had steady power supply for months.
