Embattled Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been allowed to file an appeal seeking to overturn an order issued by Justice Steven Kavuma blocking him from accessing office.

With the permission of Deputy Chief Justice Kavuma, Lukwago filed the application before the Court of Appeal registrar today through his law firm; Lukwago and company advocates, seeking to annul the order issued in March 2015, against his return to office.

Lukwago's troubles begun after his unfortunate impeachment by Councilors at the famous Kampala Capital City Authority accusing him of, incompetence, misconduct and abuse of office.

The impeachment sparked off court battles between Lukwago and the Attorney General on behalf of government arguing that his return to office was illegal, even when High Court Judge Lydia Mugambe and Yasin Nyanzi ruled that it was in err.

The order can only be reviewed by a panel of three Court of Appeal judges.

After a meeting held at Justice Kavuma’s chambers in Kampala, Lukwago who was a part of it promised to abide by the law, but noted that  much as he has been re-elected to office he wants to complete his current term before he can take oath for a new term.

KCCA deputy spokesperson Robert Kalumba on the other hand says unless the court order that is still pending is lifted by the same court, Lukwago is not expected in office.

Lukwago is however hopeful that the matter will be resolved before the end of his term of office.
