The electoral commission has this morning held a National Briefing session of Election Observers for the General Elections.

The Commission chairman Eng. Dr. Badru Kiggundu says they are confident that the observer’s presence will definitely give confidence and credibility to this election.

Dr. Kiggundu says the commission is grateful to all Ugandans in general & candidates for the support and participation in all the electoral processes. He explains that the end of the presidency is May 12th. So all elections must be conducted before.

“Only persons appearing on the NVR will be eligible to vote, irrespective of whether they do or do not possess a National ID” Kiggundu explains.

He adds that; “Tomorrow 16th Feb 2016 is the closure of presidential campaigns.”

Meanwhile, Presidential, General Parliamentary and Local Government Councils, to be filled during the 2016 General Elections are 28,520, while the total no. of candidates who were nominated is 63,603, excluding Specials Interest Groups that are represented in parliament.

Also, the commission handed over to the Presidential candidates Soft and Hard copies of the National Voters’ Register, and the Presiding Officers and Agents of Political Parties/Independent candidates will be having these copies at the Polling Stations.
