The Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF) has trashed social media reports that former Security Minister Gen Elly Tumwine died.

The rumors of General Tumwine’s death have been circulating on various social media platforms since Friday last week.

Gen Tumwine is currently admitted at the Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi where he was airlifted on Tuesday last week after reportedly being hospitalized for days at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala with an unknown illness.

Responding to the social media posts declaring, UPDF has released a brief statement dismissing the claims.

Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF spokesperson through his Twitter account dismissed the rumors as untrue, criticizing social media users for practicing modern-day wizardry.

“If modernity is equivalent to wizardly, then I would rather remain backward. In a society with norms, NO one wishes another dead!!! But some people are going to great lengths to declare the living, and dead! What a shame!!!!!” the UPDF spokesperson tweeted.

Kuliaygye statement follows a social media post sent from a fake UPDF Twitter account announcing that Gen Tumwine died on Sunday night at 10:00 pm.

Meanwhile, Gen Tumwine’s daughter Cynthia Tumwine took to social media to criticize the false propaganda.

“Adversity will teach you so much about human nature. That said I wouldn’t wish the last 24 hours on anyone. Time travel needs to undo social media because it’s currently in the pits. God is faithful regardless though ❤️ We give him praise,” she tweeted.
