The Police in Busoga East has in custody a security guard for shooting a 22-year-old, man dead.

The deceased is Daniel Agama, a mentally impaired resident of Nakamini village, in Namalemba sub-county, Bugweri district. The suspect, whose particulars have been concealed for the purposes of aiding investigations, was guarding Naigombwa Seed Secondary School at the time of the incident.

He is currently detained at Bugweri Central Police Station. He told journalists that he shot Agama on suspicion that he was a thief after he jumped over the school fence and broke into the administration block at 4 a.m.

According to Samuel Ibinga the school head, they have been battling endless break-ins, which prompted them to hire an armed security guard since the locally hired caretaker personnel were easily overpowered by the thieves.

Ibinga adds that unknown thieves stole 15 computers from the school premises in May 2022, and the police are yet to release a comprehensive report about the same.

Meanwhile, the Busoga East Police Spokesperson, Diana Nandawula has confirmed the shooting, but declined to divulge details, arguing that detectives are still reviewing the available evidence and exhibits obtained from the scene of the crime.
The body has been taken to Iganga General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
