A UPDF soldier, identified as Lance Corporal John Nuwagira, has been remanded to Makindye Military barracks for having a sexual affair with his boss’s wife.

Nuwagira appeared before the Uganda People's Defense Court(UPDF) General court-martial chaired by Brigadier Robert Freeman Mugabe on Tuesday.

He has been charged with conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline contrary to some provisions under the UPDF Act of 2005.

The prosecution alleges that in 2021, while at Makenke in Mbarara District, Nuwagira developed an indecent relationship with Annet Kobusingye, the wife of Lt. Robert Turyahabwe who was serving in Somalia.

Turyahabwe, a Legal Officer at the Masaka Armoured Brigade and Prosecutor in the Unit Disciplinary Committee(UDC) at Makenke Military Barracks (Second Division) reported Nuwagira upon realizing the illicit affair.

He claims that since he left Mbarara in 2019, Nuwagira had been engaging in a sexual relationship with his wife, a claim the defendant has denied.

The Prosecution led by Lt. Alex Lasto Mukhwana informed the Court that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

Nuwagira pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded to Makindye Military Police Barracks until August 29th, 2022.

Once found guilty, Nuwagira is liable to dismissal with disgrace from the army.
