Statehouse Anticorruption Unit has arrested four top Bukwo officials in the ongoing investigations into financial mismanagement in the district.

Franklin Kitiyo the Bukwo District Production Officer, Andrew Bukose the Chief Finance Officer, David Aliwa the Principal planner and the acting Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Catherine Cheptanui were picked up on Wednesday by a team of detectives from the Statehouse Anticorruption Unit led by its senior legal officer, Peter Ndomugyenyi.

The Statehouse Anticorruption Unit has pitched camp in Bukwo to investigate the alleged abuse of funds. Last year, the district made headlines when ghost projects were discovered under the Northern Uganda Social Action  fund phase III leading to the loss of over Shillings 20 billion.

Aminis Kayondo, the Bukwo District Police Commander confirmed the arrest of the four officials and promised to provide details later. Samuel Hashaka Mpimbaza, the Bukwo Resident District Commissioner, said more officials are likely to be arrested.

"These officers in Bukwo thought they were in heaven where they could abuse public resource at their liberty now they have to face it," he said. Julius Chelimo, the Bukwo LC V Chairperson, says that corruption has frustrated all the government efforts geared toward improving the livelihood of the community.

"Am very happy for the presence of the state house anticorruption team here in Bukwo and we pray that they help us clean up the district," he said. Martine Mongusho, an anti-corruption Monitor in Bukwo district, says that the presence of the State House Anticorruption Unit would help to energize their voluntary efforts to fight corruption.

"We are going to lead the State House Anticorruption Unit to all ghost projects where money was swindled," he said.
Patricia Chelimo, a resident advised the state house team not to stop in the offices but also move into the field to appreciate the level of corruption in Bukwo.
