Police in Masaka are now holding fourteen students of Blessed Sacrament Secondary School Kimaanya on allegations of instigating a violent strike.

The school has since suspended over 1000 learners in Senior three, four, five, and six in connection to the strike on Sunday night. The students turned rowdy and burned five mattresses in a dormitory citing corporal punishment, sexual harassment, and poor feeding.

By Monday evening thirteen learners were behind police cells for staging the strike. Police have now confirmed that a senior student has been arrested, bringing the number to 14.

The Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson Mohammad Nsubuga has declined to reveal the identities of the arrested learners but says the suspects will help police with investigations.

Meanwhile, fuming parents have pitched camp at the school’s administration seeking the whereabouts of their missing children. The parents have threatened to sue the school for misusing the mandate of ensuring the safety of the students it was trusted with.

Ronald Katende, the Masaka City Resident Commissioner says a meeting is still underway between the school's administration, the Board of Governors and Inspectors to establish the fate of learners.
