The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon. Mathias Mpuuga has written to the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Jacob Oulanya to recall the house for an emergency sitting following the fuel crisis facing the country.

In his letter dated 19th January 2022, Mpuuga argues that several fuel stations across the country have run out of fuel while those with stock are charging exorbitant prices.

There is a looming risk of a Country shut down in the event that urgent interventions are not undertaken to address the crisis. In light of the above, there is a public outcry across the country that demands that the peoples’ representatives are recalled from recess to share their constituency experiences, offer leadership, engage government and contribute to solving the crisis” reads part of the letter.

Mpuuga says that while a Petition signed by at least a third of the Members is required to recall Members from recess as provided for under Rule 21, he implores the Speaker to use his powers to recall the House earlier than the communicated date of 27th January 2022.

He adds that his request is premised on the fact that the crisis is escalating and requires urgent attention before it manifests into a huge economic and security crisis.
