The party spokesperson Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda told the press at Najjanankumbi on Monday morning, that the aim of these meetings is to check on the health of the FDC in these areas.

Reports about the 2021 elections are presented and discussed during the meetings and the party leadership in respective districts is also audited to establish positions that have fallen vacant as a result of desertion, deaths, migration, loss of interest in leadership and other factors.

“On Friday, the FDC President and his team held a similar meeting for the FDC leaders from Busia, Butaleja and Tororo in Tororo district. On Saturday, they were in Mbale meeting FDC leaders from Bugisu sub region and Sebei. In total FDC leaders from 13 districts attended the Mbale meeting. The final meeting for Eastern Uganda, took place on Sunday in Soroti. It was attended by the party leadership from all the Teso districts” Ssemujju said.

The FDC leaders will next week on Friday, November 12th kick off the northern Uganda tour with a similar meeting in Lango. They will be in Acholi the following day and conclude northern Uganda with West Nile where they will spend three days.

Areas that have been toured have been instructed to hold elections to fill vacant positions. All leaders elected under the re-fill exercise are holding positions on an interim basis until internal party elections are held in about a year’s time.

According to Ssemujju, the meetings have also discussed pending local government elections where the Electoral Commission has announced vacancies. FDC leaders in these particular areas have been instructed to select candidates who will represent the party in these competitions.
