Buganda Parliamentary caucus will today Wednesday 23rd June 2021 elect new leaders.

On Tuesday, the opposition National Unity Platform-NUP party endorsed the Butambala County MP, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi as their candidates for the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus Chairperson race.

The caucus is a platform that brings together all legislators from the Central region regardless of their political affiliation.

Legislators use the platform to lobby programs and projects for the benefit of the region and liaise with the Kabaka’s government in Bulange- Mengo to support the social and economic programs of the monarch.

During a dramatic election on Tuesday, four legislators; Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi from Butambala County, David Kalwanga, Busujju County, Betty Nambooze, Mukono Municipality and their Lubaga South counterpart, Aloysius Mukasa expressed interest in chairing the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus.

However, the other candidates except Nambooze dropped out of the race to allow Kivumbi take the seat and represent the Party, something that did not go down well with the Mukono Municipality MP. She stormed out of the meeting angry and is yet to say why.

She told media that she was against holding the election during a pandemic in which hundreds of Ugandans are dying.

Today’s elections will include candidates from other political parties. NUP also endorsed is David Kalwanga for the position of caucus treasurer, Ntenjeru South MP (Independent) Patrick Nsanja Secretary, Mityana Woman MP, Joyce Bagala Public Relations Officer and Bukomansimbi North MP, Dr.  Christine Ndiwalana as External Affairs Secretary.

According to Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP Spokesperson, the party had reserved five out of the 10 positions.
