The Police in Bunyangabu District have arrested a father identified as Steven Jusi for concealing the defilement of his 8 year old daughter.

The eight- year-old girl and a primary two pupil at Kiboota Primary School in Cosy Nyakoojo Katutuwas allegedly defiled by her grandfather Joseph Kaganda.

According to Hudson Opio the Officer-in-charge Buheesi Police Post,  when the victim told her father that she was being defiled by Kaganda, she was ordered to remain silent not to embarrass the family.

However, one of the residents reported the case to police after she saw the child had difficulty in walking and when asked what had happened to her, at first she deceived him that she had a slight accident with her leg.

But, the resident threatened to cane her and that is when she revealed that Kaganda had been defiling her.

Opio says that her grandfather, who is currently on the run, repeatedly defiled her for six months.

One of the social workers in Buheesi Town Council Cosy Nyakoojo Katutu, says they were forced to petition the Resident District Commissioner, who convened an urgent meeting in the town council to discuss the matter leading to the arrest of the victim's father, over negligence and concealing the crime he had knowledge about.

Kaganda advantage of the absence of the victim’s parents to commit the offence. A medical report from Editene International Medical Centre seen by Uganda Radio Network indicates that the girl's hymen was ruptured due to forced penetration.

The Rwenzori Regional Police Commander Lameck Kigozi, says that the police are also investigating some of its officers for frustrating investigations and mismanaging the case. He however declined to reveal the names of the officers.
