Newly elected MPs subscribing to the ruling National Resistance Movement, NRM have been tasked to be humble and good servants to people they lead.

The advice was sounded by President Yoweri Museveni over the weekend while addressing the MPs who are at Kyankwanzi.

On Sunday, an ecumenical prayer organised by Catholics, Anglicans and Moslems took place at National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi.

President Museveni took the chance to also caution NRM MPs-elect against selfishness and pride but rather be good servants who take care of their sheep like Jesus Christ did.

"Be shepherds of the flock that God gave you and take care of it willingly as God cares for it. Do your work, not for mere pay but from real desire to serve," Museveni said while reading 1peter 5 from the Bible.

The President further cautioned MPs against working for mere pay but instead work from their desire to serve the people who voted them into leadership.

Museveni challenged MPs to be good examples to people within their communities.

"Do not try to rule over those who have been put in your care but be examples to the flock," Museveni said

The retreat at Kyankwanzi which began last week on Thursday will run for three weeks.

Over the weekend, President Museveni who is also the NRM chairman began meeting MPs in clusters of the regions where they hail from, starting with Buganda and Karamoja.
The meetings with the President are meant to help the MPs discuss issues affecting their people without diverting the purpose of the retreat.
