The police in Kabale have launched a manhunt for unidentified errant government driver who knocked dead a pedestrian in Kabale town.

Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police spokesperson identifies the deceased as Ayinebyona Isaac a 25-year-old Mukiga from Kabale who was knowcked and died on spot while trying to cross the road.

The incident happened on Sunday evening near Bank of Uganda along Kabale-Kisoro road.

The driver of vehicle Reg. No.LG 0001-156 Ford Ranger double cabin who was over speeding is yet to be identified, but the vehicle belongs to Rubanda District Local Government.

“He was driving from Kabale town towards Rubanda side at a high speed. As the suspect/ driver was trying to escape with the same motor vehicle, he ended up overturning it in a distance of half a km from the first scene” Maate says.

Police was notified and visited the scene, motor vehicle was towed and parked in Kabale police yard while the deceased’s body was conveyed to Kabale referral hospital mortuary pending postmortem.

The driver who escaped from the scene is yet to be identified or found.

Maate condemned the act, noting that if the driver had followed the rules and regulations of the road, knowing that he was driving in the middle of town, he would not have killed the young man.
