President Yoweri Museveni will on Sunday 11th April receive the new Tanzanian President Her Excellency Samia Hassan Suluhu for signing of oil and gas agreements.

H.E Museveni and the late President John Pombe Magufuli were scheduled to sign the agreements last month, unfortunately the former passed. The duo were supposed to meet on March 22 for the three-way signing of the crude oil export pipeline deal between the governments of Uganda and Tanzania and the French oil giant Total, the lead investor.

According to sources from State House, H.E Suluhu will arrive by Friday and hold talks with Mr. Museveni, before the signing ceremony on Sunday.

It had been expected that President Suluhu’s first state visit would be to Uganda.

Herbert Ssempogo, Senior Corporate Affairs Officer at the Uganda National Oil Company celebrated the upcoming meeting, saying that something major is expected to happen this weekend, regarding Uganda's oil. He however, did not give any details.

It was announced by government that the deal would be signed the early half of April, to pave way for the construction of the 1440km export pipeline from Western Uganda to the Tanzanian Indian Ocean Port of Tanga. The pipeline will be completed within 36 months of the signing of the deal, and this will commence the commercial production of oil.

A six billion barrel-per-day refinery is also planned to process crude oil and the finished products will be consumed by the local and regional markets.
