Police at Old Kampala are investigating a case of Malicious Damage at Lubiri Secondary school in Lubaga Kampala.

It is alleged that in the evening of Sunday night, students at Lubiri Ss went on a strike that led to the destruction of property around school.

Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan deputy Police spokesperson says that they were informed about the incident and responded immediately.

A total of 56 students who are majorly from candidate classes were arrested and detained overnight at Old Kampala Police station.

The students were interviewed and police was able to establish that the cause of strike was that, one of the teachers identified as Mulondo Benjamin (currently on the run) had abused 2 of their colleague students one Kayaga Brenda and Nalubega shamira all in senior six by caning them.

“The students would later show their dissatisfaction by destroying school property. However, police has picked interest in the matter and the assaulted students are yet to be examined by a police surgeon and a case of assault is being investigated by Lungujja Police, since the students who were beaten are above 18.

Owoyesigyire urged the students at large to desist from violent protest but always exhaust the available means in solving such issues like reporting to police such teachers.
Most of the students were given Police Bond since they had papers on Monday morning.
