Covid-19 vaccination in the districts of Kyotera, Rakai, Lwengo and Lyantonde has been postponed following delayed delivery of the vaccines.
Government launched vaccination in Kampala starting with health workers on Wednesday. The exercise also rolled out in different district hospitals, health centre IIIs and IVs.
The health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng was the first person to receive the jab, followed by the Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwiine and other health officials and journalist at the Ministry’s offices in Kampala.
For health workers in Kyotera, Rakai, Lwengo and Lyantonde districts, it was a disappointment as they had to walk back home without being vaccinated after being told that the vaccines had not yet been delivered by the Ministry of Health.
Kyotera District Health Officer, Dr Edward Muwanga says they had mobilized all health workers and doctors in the district to turn up for the exercise.
Adding that they all adhered to the communication and reported to their respective vaccination centres only to be turned away yet the majority had commuted long distances.
By Thursday morning, they still hadn’t received communication from the Ministry about when the vaccines will be delivered.
Moses Sakor the Rakai District Health Officer says they expect to roll out the exercise next week since they also had not yet received the vaccines.
In Lyantonde District, the Health Officer Dr Moses Nkanika regretted the delays saying it has disrupted the work schedule of the health workers. According to the Lwengo DHO Dr David Mugabi, vaccination in his district is expected to start today Thursday when the vaccines arrive.
