Senior 4 candidates in several parts of the country were unable to start their UCE examinations at the stipulated time due to delays in arrival of question papers to their centres.
In Mbarara city for example, the examinations container hosted at Mbarara Central Police Station was blocked by a wreckage of the car that was involved in an accident. The container has papers for students at over 41 centers and the wreckage had not been removed by 9: 00 am.
At New Life SS, Katikamu North in Luweero district, candidates were still outside the examination room for checking at 8:50 am candidates.
This is due to the lay in distribution of examination papers in the area. The container with examination papers had not yet been opened by 8:40 am caused delayed arrival of the examination supervisors.
Here in Kampala at the Jinja road examination storage center, invigilators waited for school administrators to pick the examinations and give them a lift since some of them did not have cars, while others didn’t know where to find the schools hence causing a delay.
Uganda National Examinations Board-UNEB guidelines indicate that invigilators and scouts must arrive at their duty station an hour to the start of the exams. However, some invigilators said they could not locate the schools they had been distributed to.
However, Eve Konde the Kampala Area Examination supervisor, argues that there is no excuse for invigilators to arrive late at their duty stations since they were given appointment letters last week, indicating the centres they are supervising.
She added that if the invigilators did not know where they were going, they should have tried to familiarize themselves with their stations early enough.
333,889 candidates have commenced their 2020 UCE examinations today at 3,935 centers across the country.
