The police in Kampala have carried out another impromptu security operation and arrested 57 suspects at Nakivubo channel in Kampala.

Four police commanders; David Nahamya the Kampala Central Police Station head of operation, Muhammad Semambo the Officer in charge of Kisekka Police, Consulate Kasule the OC for Nakivubo Police Post and Bruno Bamusime the OC Container Village Police Post led the operation.

With the help of the Local Defence Units- LDUs, police began the operation from Kiseka market and moved up to Clock Tower targeting the youth who have been recently captured by CCTV cameras snatching people's phones, bags and other valuable, entering and leaving taxi parks, shops and Arcades.

According to the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, such operations will continue across the City to get rid of thugs terrorizing traders, buyers, passengers and other members of public.

The 57 suspects were being interrogated at CPS and detectives had already started picking out repeated offenders to ensure the right culprits are arraigned in courts of law.

Vendors welcomed the operations, arguing that the thugs have been terrorizing them especially in the evening hours after they have sold off merchandise.
