A UPDF soldier attached to Banabana Battalion in Kitgum is in trouble after he allegedly shot and killed a teenage boy. 

Police in Pader district arrested Private Michael Akena who killed the teenager while on deployement to guard one of the project sites of National Water and Sewerage Corporation –NWSC in Acholi Bur Sub –County in Pader district.

The deceased is Charles Labeja a 17 year old resident of Acholi Bur Sub –County in Pader district. He was shot and wounded in the stomach at around 2pm on Wednesday.

According to Jimmy Patrick Okema the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Akena shot the minor after he suspected him of stealing an item from the site he was guarding. The boy was rushed to Kitgum Government Hospital for treatment where he died from on Friday morning. 

He noted that police rushed to the scene of crime and recovered the gun registration number UPD 56 -155 499 87 with sixteen rounds of ammunition and nine cartridges, and that the suspect was arrested, taken to Acholi Bur Police Post but was later transferred to Pader Central Police Station.
