The State Minister for Labour and former Attorney General Mwesigwa Rukutana has been granted bail by Ntungamo Chief Magistrates Court. 

Rukutana was released on a cash bail of UGX 4 million, while his sureties were bonded at UGX 50 million none cash.

The former attorney General applied for bail through his lawyers led by Owen Murangira.

He has spent the last one week at Kitalya Prison where he was sent for attempted murder, assault, malicious damage, and threatening violence.

All this happened during the NRM Parliamentary Primaries in Rushenyi, Ntungamo District where he drew a gun from one of his body guards and allegedly, shot at supporters from the rival camp of Naomi Kabasharira.

Rukutana was also arrested alongside his three body guards identified as PC Paul Agec, Faizo Kazoola and John Bosco Okello as well as his driver Napoleon Nuwamanya.

Presiding judge, the Ntungamo Magistrate Grade One, Namayanja Nazifah cautioned Rukutana against witness tampering. He presented three sureties; former minister Jim Muhwezi, Igara East MP Michael Mawanda and businessman Bob Kabonero.
