The opposition Forum for Democratic Change has announced that party members who are planning to vie for the presidential flag bearer in the upcoming general elections should pick nomination forms on July 30th.
“If you want to be sponsored by the FDC to be a presidential candidate please do not miss Thursday next week an come on Saturday wanting to be nominated” Party spokesperson Ssemujju Nganda said.
While addressing the weekly press briefing at party headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Monday morning, Hon Nganda said the party has instructed electoral committee at all levels that where two or more candidates have picked nomination forms, they should first attempt a consensus around the candidate thought to be stronger than the other, and that only when this fails, should an election be held.
“You only go for party Primaries where consensus has failed. If you want the intervention of senior party leaders, please let us know” he noted.
He warned that no one is too big to come late for nomination, explaining that when nomination is closed, it will not be re-opened for anyone.
Where no candidate has shown interest to represent the party at any given level, the FDC branch organs have been instructed to head hunt candidates by close of Friday this week.
Meanwhile, the party will carry out party primaries for Sub county candidates that is LC3 Chairpersons and all councilors at all levels from LC3 to municipalities, Town councils and districts between July 26th to July 30th.
Primaries for towns and Municipal council Mayors will be held august 8th and August 13th, District chairpersons and Woman MP August 14th and 15th while primaries for directly elected MPs will be conducted between August 16th and August 20th.
The party has suffered a huge blow, following defection of several members of Parliament who are joining other parties and others choosing to stand as independent candidates due to different issues.
