A lady identified as Mackline Kemigisha has Wednesday been taken to Court and charged with child torture after burning her two children’s hands with hot water for allegedly stealing sugar.

Kemigisha was arrested on Monday by Police in Kira for torturing her two children. “She boiled hot water and poured it on the hands of her 10 year old girl and 7 year old boy” Owoyesigyire says.

The suspect was reported by neighbors who had the kids screaming and called police. According to the police spokesperson, Kemigisha threatened police officers who went to arrest her.

“She locked herself inside the house and started threatening our officers that she was going to burn the house with children inside. The officers made a hole inside the neighbor’s ceiling where they passed and rescued the children. They were taken for medication” Owoyesigyire added.

The children’s father, a one Habomugisha Gilbert was later traced down by police and signed for the children and took them home.

It is alleged that the duo had separated for close to three years and along the way the man picked the children from Kemigisha and took them to his village in Kisoro.

However, before the COVID-19 lockdown was announced, Kemigisha went to Habomugisha’s village and forcefully took back the children into her custody where she has been torturing them because they were stealing sugar.

In a related development, The Police in Kiira region have launched a manhunt for one Yasin Wandera, a private guard who allegedly assaulted his Seven-year-old son Halid Mwima, and broke his left thigh bone.

The victim is a resident of Lwanda village in Northern division, Jinja city and is currently nursing wounds at Jinja regional referral hospital orthopedic ward following the incident with his father on Saturday.

According to Abbey Ngako the Kiira region police spokesperson, Wandera intentionally injured Mwima’s leg over failure to return home on time.

The Police has mounted a search for Wandera to face charges of child neglect and child abuse.

The child told police that his father faulted him of reckless movements before pouncing on him and leaving him unconscious. This was not the first time that he was being beaten to a pulp, by his father.
