The Police in Kampala Metropolitan area has impounded 800 motorcycles since Monday this week to date.

The motorcycles were impounded after their riders were found flouting health ministry guidelines on COVID-19 while others had no permits, helmets and licenses.

Deputy police spokesperson Kampala metropolitan Luke Owoyesigyire says the riders were given express penalty schemes and many have paid and taken their motorcycles back.
Owoyesigyire advised riders to ensure they have all papers on them before setting out for work every morning.

On Monday alone, 200 motorcycles were impounded in KMP for violating the presidential directives on the containment of the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

Police carried out an operation in which officers arrested both riders and their passengers that were violating Ministry of Health guidelines.

Ministry of Health issued regulations that riders aren't supposed to carry passengers since it could lead to spread of the Coronavirus due to lack of social distance.
