Police officers in the Great Kampala Metropolitan Policing area have arrested several boda boda riders and passengers and detained them at various police stations.

This follows incidents of continued violation of the presidential directives on the containment of the spread of the novel Coronavirus by boda boda motorcyclists.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango says that on Saturday, police carried out an operation in which officers arrested both riders and passengers that were violating Ministry of Health guidelines on use of motorcycles in the country.

“Ministry of Health issued regulations that riders aren't supposed to carry passengers since it could lead to spread of the Coronavirus due to lack of social distance. The suspects will be charged with disobedience of lawful orders and doing acts likely to spread infectious disease which is coronavirus” Onyango noted.

He says that this will serve as a warning to people who continue to defy the regulations of motorcycles.
