The police Fort portal have arrested two of their own for moving in public places without wearing face masks, tantamount to ignoring Presidential directives.

The officers whose names have been withheld by the force, were arrested on Monday on the orders of Kabarole Resident District Commissioner, Steven Asimwe after showing up at Mpanga market in East Division without facial masks.

According to Asiimwe, he had gone to commission new access routes in the market, when he appealed to members of the general public to inform him whenever they see security officers in public places without facial masks.

Rwenzori Region police spokesperson Vincent Twesigye, said they have commenced investigations into the matter.

In his several televised addresses, President Yoweri Museveni has made it compulsory for all Ugandans to wear face masks in public places to curb the spread of COVID 19.

Last night, the president announced that no Ugandan above the age of 6 years should show up anywhere in public without a face mask. It was also one of the conditions set for public transport to start business on Thursday.
“All passengers, the driver and conductor must wear face masks at all time. Everyone above the age of 6 years must wear a mask whenever in public” the President directed.

Government will on 10th June begin the exercise of distributing free face masks to people living in 40 border districts where the COVID19 threat is eminent.
