Bodies of two fishermen who drowned in Lake Kyoga on Sunday night have been retrieved by the officers from Police Marine Unit in Nakasongola. 

The deceased are; Jimmy Odong and Eric Lumu Mukasa, all fishermen at Kabasombwa Landing Site in Lwampanga sub-county, who went fishing at around at 11 p.m. on Sunday night when the tragedy occurred. 

James Kwerigira Kwerigira the Kabasombwa village Chairman suspects that their canoe was hit by heavy winds.

Isah Ssemwogerere the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson says that the Police Marine Unit conducted a search on the Lake and recovered the bodies on Monday morning.

This brings to eight, the number of fishermen who have drowned in Lake Kyoga in Nakasongola district within a period of one month. 
The victims are; Ronald Wakanyira and Topher Ssebabi, all fishermen at Zengebe Landing Site as well as Henry Othieno and Sam Mukisa from Lwampanga Landing Site.

Sam Kigula the Chairman LC5 Nakasongola District says that fishermen have continued defying a ban on fishing at Lake Kyoga which was announced to allow the registration of all fishermen operating on the Lake and restocking of fish.

Recently, the water levels in L. Kyoga have also risen, leaving the community around it in fear.
