Uganda has received a first batch of thirteen nationals who were stranded abroad following the outbreak of COVID-19. The group arrived at 7:30 pm on Monday at Entebbe International Airport from Addis Abba aboard Ethiopian Airlines.

They include; Barbra Kavuya, Blanche Kibaju and Isaiah Tiba Byabashaija, who are family members of businessman Ben Kavuya of Legacy Group and others are Bernard Mugisha, Leens a UN officer, Samuel Walusansa, an official with IGAD, Dr Andrew Obuku Ekii of Uganda Virus Research Institute, Ernest Ojakol, Denis Wodulo, Makerere University Professor Oswald Ndoleriire, Hassifa Kagoya, Susan Namuli and Vivienne Naiga.

The Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kuteesa last week permitted Ethiopian Airlines to bring home the above mentioned individuals. He however received a lot of fire from Ugandans on social media and most especially those stuck abroad and haven’t received such special treatment.
The first letter issued by the minister however had only three names of the family members of businessman Ben Kavuya. After receiving a lot of heat, ten more names were added.
The 13 people were tested at the Airport immediately after their return and later quarantined in two unidentified hotels in Kampala.

While delivering his address last evening, President Museveni explained that only 2,500 Ugandans have expressed interest to return home but government is not ready to manage them after their return.
