Ugandans need to continue being vigilant and compliant because the fight against COVID-19 pandemic is far from over, the army Spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire has warned.

Brig. Karemire said this during the Joint Security Task force press conference in Kampala, on Monday.

He however noted that there’s a ray of hope because the country is on the right truck as witnessed from the fact that we have not registered any death arising from the pandemic.
“Let’s wait for the details from H.E the President when he addresses the nation this evening” he noted.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been lodged into the murder of a UPDF Major who was shot to death on Sunday evening.

At around 6pm on Sunday, Lance Corporal Omutojo Max shot and killed Major Suleiman Wafula and Lt. Sam Kyandiga who tried to arrest him following the incident. The soldiers belonged to the Airforce and are based in Nakasongola.

“The UPDF leadership condemns in the strongest way that is not characteristic of our force. As you all know that discipline remains the core value at the foundation of the UPDF” Brig. Karemire added.

The trigger happy soldier has since been arrested and will face appropriate charges once investigations are complete. Karemire said the army sent condolences to the deceased’s family.

“Major Wafula will be accorded a fitting burial in line with the standard procedures that are prevalent with under these current times” he added.
