Two Electrocuted in Jinja

Panic has gripped residents along Tobacco road in Walukuba-Masese division in Jinja district after a Boda boda rider and his passenger were electrocuted this morning. 


The victims have been identified as Swaibu Mugenyi the rider while the passenger is Juliet Auma.


According to eyewitness accounts, the duo was riding to Amber coat food market when they were killed by a loose electric cable. Another person identified as Edisa Nabukenya, survived with serious injuries and narrated that she saw the wire drop on the motorcycle, which was approximately one meter ahead of her.


Vendors claim to have severally tried to engage responsible authorities to replace old poles in vain.


Senior officials at UMEME declined to comment, claiming the incident is being investigated. 


According to Mohammed Ssebuliba, the Officer in charge of Walukuba police station, investigations are underway, while the deceased’s bodies were handed over to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
