All roads leading to Pope Paul Hotel have been cut off by police officers who were deployed to thwart any attempts by Kyadondo East MP also 2021 Presidential hopeful Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine to hold a consultation meeting.
Bobi Wine was forced to reschedule his consultation meetings after failure to reach an understanding with the Police in January 2020. All his meetings in Kampala and Upcountry were cancelled.
The electoral commission would later hold a stakeholders’ meeting which Bobi Wine and the police leaders attended to forge a way forward. The People Power faction leader would later come up with a new schedule with his first consultation meeting expected for today.
The MP told journalists that he wrote to the police and was given a way forward. However, Fred Enanga the police spokesperson told the media on Monday last week, that they had not permitted his camp to hold any meetings. He however acknowledged that they received the alleged letter, though added that the group had not fulfilled the requirements.
All presidential hopefuls must present clearance of the venues they intend to use for their consultations, the number of people they expect and other arrangements and the meetings be held indoors and no procession is held, according to police.
Police deployed heavily it’s men and LDU personnel who used teargas to disperse rowdy People Power fans who were pelting stones at them. The place is still under siege.
Neither police, nor people power has commented on the events.
