Two men have been arrested after showing up in parliament and disrupting Wednesday afternoon sitting.
A statement released by parliament’s the assistant communication officer Ranny Ismael, as the members of parliament debated this afternoon, the ministerial statement on the land information system International Conference scheduled for 20th and 21st February 2020, two strangers jumped into the chamber from the visitors’ gallery.
He added that the strangers distracted proceedings of parliament but the sergeant at arms and his officers apprehended the duo and handed it to the police.
“In the process of jumping into the chamber, there was a breakage of a glass cover of one of the tube lightings” the statement reads.
Proceedings later resumed with the speaker directing the sergeant to investigate the incident. Ismael’s statement also indicates that there was no shooting as reported by some media houses and that the noise heard was as a result of the breakage of the glass cover.
The police are now interrogating the individuals to establish their motive while investigations into the matter are ongoing.
