13 people suspected to be part of a gang of robbers that have been terrorising residents of Kasese municipality and its outskirts have been rounded up and are being held by the police.

According to Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori East Region Spokesperson, the suspects were picked up in a joint operation involving the army and police conducted on Sunday night after being found with house breaking tools and stolen items in the areas of Acholi Quarters, Base camp Lower, Katadoba and Shauri-yako in Kasese Municipality.

Twesige identified some of the suspects as Monica Nziabake Matafali Kabiira, Doreen Muhindo, Alex Muhindo, Rabson Thembo, Kasimu Ategeka and Moris Mumbere. Meanwhile, three of the suspects Alex Muhindo, Rabson Thembo and Kasimu Ategeka were found in possession of a bullet and pictures of two people pausing with a gun.

He adds that the operation followed a number of complaints from residents about the escalation of cases of burglary, pick pocketing, robberies and unknown settlers in the affected areas.

The suspects will be charged with theft and illegal possession of government stores when their investigations are complete and police intends to intensify their operations to eliminate wrong doers from the community.
