A joint security team from Uganda Police Force and Uganglda People's Defence Forces, UPDF has taken over security along the shores of Lake Albert in Bunyoro districts to avert cross border crime during the festive season.

The deployment will affect the districts of Buliisa, Hoima, Kikuube and Kagadi which often experience a surge in attacks by suspected armed Congolese militiamen who use the porous border points.

According to Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, the surveillance is aimed at averting any possible attacks by criminals who terrorize border communities more especially the suspected Congolese militia who have on several occasions attacked, robbed and killed Ugandans on the Lake Albert.

Adding that they have intensified both foot and water patrols that are being conducted by the police and the Uganda People’s Defense forces- UPDF.

the Buliisa Resident District Commissioner-RDC Buliisa Amos Asiimwe, has urged residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons to security personnel.
Suspected Congolese militiamen have for the past two years attacked, killed and robbed fishing gear from Ugandan fishermen in Hoima, Kagadi, Kikuube and Buliisa districts, something that has caused fear among the fishing community settling on the Lake Albert shores.
