Body of UPDF Soldier recovered from Kobebe Dam

The marines have recovered the body of a Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF soldier attached to Nakabaat Army Barracks in Rupa Sub County who drowned while trying to cross Nakiloro River.

The marines have recovered the body of a Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF soldier attached to Nakabaat Army Barracks in Rupa Sub County who drowned while trying to cross Nakiloro River.   

The deceased identified as Staff Sgt. Abasa Kiriro was carried by flash waters on Sunday afternoon as he attempted to cross a drift at Nakiloro River to Rupa Sub County on a motorcycle. 

Kiriro’s body was recovered this morning from Kobebe Dam, where it was deposited by water, while the motorcycle is yet to be recovered.

The 3rd division UPDF spokesperson Maj. Telesphor Turyamumanya has confirmed the death of Sgt. Kiriro who hails from Bura Village in Lomunga Parish in Kuru Sub County in Yumbe district.

In a related development, a woman drowned in a seasonal river in Kangole in Napak district on Sunday, while Hillary Lokwang, the IK County Member of Parliament in Kaabong district also survived being swept away at Lopei River.
