The government of Rwanda has deported five Ugandan nationals who were reportedly being detained in Rwanda.

The victims are; Gilbert Beingana, Amos Tibesiga and Nicholas Tumwesigye, all residents of Kabale district and Ivan Nirinyiyimana and Beatha Nyiramuco, from Kisoro district.

Available reports indicate that the five were arrested last week for illegal entry into Rwanda.

Francois Regis Gatarahiya, the Rwanda’s Director General of Immigration and Emigration said in a statement released on Tuesday, that the five were deported back to Uganda because they were prohibited Immigrants in Rwanda.

According to Gideon Turyatunga, a brother to Beingana, the five were deported and dumped at Uganda-Rwanda border of Chanika in Kisoro district on Tuesday morning.

The development comes amid continued closure of Rwandan borders with Uganda since February 2019 to supposedly advance the construction of the single customs at Gatuna border.

Truck drivers destined to Kigali were advised to use Kagitumba border via Mirama Hills.

Later, the Rwandan President, Paul Kagame would accuse Ugandan authorities of abducting his citizens and locking them up in ungazetted areas.
Currently, Rwandans are discouraged from crossing into Uganda, except by air. Rwanda claims it cannot guarantee the safety of her people in Uganda.
