The Police and UPDF marine units in partnership with the local fishermen are searching for 12 people after a boat they were in capsized on Lake Albert.
Police says that a boat carrying 18 passengers heading to DRC capsized at around 07 am on Monday morning on the Ugandan side. The police marine managed to rescue 6 people by midday, while the 12 bodies were still missing.
According to Julius Hakiza the Albertine region police spokesperson, the small canoe that was overloaded with passengers and fish was hit by a strong wind.
“Both the Police and UPDF marine units in Partnership with the local fishermen doing their best to retrieve the bodies.
Investigations into the cause of the accident underway” a police statement indicates.
