Ugandan Delegation heads to Kigali for Border talks

A delegation of government officials led by Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Sam Kutesa Kahamba are today expected to meet their Rwandan counterparts in the Ad Hoc Commission that will follow up on the recently signed MoU between the two countries.

On 21st August 2019, President Yoweri Museveni and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame met in Luanda Angola and signed an MoU to normalize relations between the two nations.

The MoU provided for the establishment of an Ad Hoc Commission for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding. Today, the Ugandan delegation led by Hon. Kutesa will hold a meeting with the Rwandan side in Kigali and later hold a press conference at 1pm.

The press conference will be jointly addressed by Olivier Nduhungirehe the Rwandan State Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Sam Kutesa the minister of Foreign Affairs Uganda.

The talks are expected to lead to the opening of the Gatuna border which has been closed since February, jeopardizing trade flow between the two nations.
