Uganda Police force has finally identified six out of the10 people who perished in an accident resulting from a head-on collision between a bus of YY Coaches registration number UAX 852F and taxi registration number UAV 689E.
The horrific incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at Bukonte trading center along the Iganga-Tirinyi-Mbale claiming lives of ten people aboard the taxi. According to the police report, 9 people were killed on spot while another victim breathed his last this morning at Iganga General Hospital.
James Mubi, the Busoga East Region police Spokesperson, identified six of the deceased as Ibrahim Waiswa, a resident of Bugweri, Afuwa Munaba, a resident of Budaka, Florence Kyazike of Luuka district, Umar Okwi, a resident of Iganga, Simon Lokutu and Godfrey Muhwesi, both from Bugiri district.
The survivors are; Babra Nairuba, Slyvia Kampia, Robinah Mudondo, Ismael Maganda, and Joel Mawanda. Mubi added that police has handed over the bodies of some of the deceased to their relatives.
According to Issa Isabirye a doctor attached to the causality ward at Iganga General Hospital, three of the accident victims are out of danger and responding to treatment while two others have been referred to Jinja Regional Referral hospital for further management.
