Uganda Police Force pathologists are stuck with the body of an Italian national, Pierluigi Ruiliano Benni who is believed to have committed suicide on Sunday night.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Benni allegedly shot himself to death at the home of Lucas Bally in Bulago Islands.

The deceased was a resident of Bulago islands at the home of Lucas Bally a Swiss by nationality and a businessman living in Kampala with property at Bulago where the deceased had been accommodated, Owoyesigyire said.

Benni is said to have used a private licensed star pistol serial number UG IND T1102-06A01087 00241 to take his own life, however Police are yet to establish the reason behind the decision to take his life.

The deceased held dual citizenship with both a Ugandan passport number B1454904 and Italian passport number YA3489465. Police says their scene of crime officers visited the scene and picked exhibits that could be vital in their investigations.

However, a source privy to the investigations says Benni’s relatives have instructed Police pathologist and Head of Medical services, Dr. Moses Byaruhanga and his team not to conduct a postmortem in their absence.

Owoyesigire notes that they are waiting for the relatives to arrive, and that the postmortem that will be done will also provide useful clues on his death. This isn’t the first time a foreign national is committing suicide in Uganda.
