Two Masqueraders arrested at Mbarara Hospital

The police in Mbarara have arrested two people for masquerading as medics at Mbarara Regional Referral hospital and stealing from unsuspecting members of the public.

The duo identified as Mark Mushabe and Emmanuel Nuwagira, both residents of Katete in Nyamitanga division of Mbarara Municipality were picked up last evening following concerns from patients that some health workers were extorting money from them.  

According to Dr. Peter Okello, the Principle administrator Mbarara Regional Referral hospital, the arrest followed a number of complaints brought to the attention of the hospital management.   

Dr. Okello adds that the duo also targeted mobile phones, laptops and personal effects of health workers and patient attendants.

Samson Kasasira the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson says the suspects stole 6 laptops and unspecified number of smartphones. 

Police is currently investigating the matter to verify whether the two were working with some people inside and outside the facility.
