A love affair gone bad is to blame for an incident in which Captain Edward Sebaggala, a Ugandan UPDF Officer shot a female soldier Lance Corporal Jacklyn Nabifo before killing self in Somalia.

According to available information, Cpt Sebaggala and Lance Corporal Nabifo had an intimate relationship in previous months, but a week before the shooting, he accused her of cheating on him with an officer of his rank.

It is said that Sebaggala confronted Nabifo on Sunday evening and demanded answers on the rumor, tut he received a not-so-friendly response from Nabifo, evoking his anger and subsequently pulled the trigger pumping three bullets into her abdomen and chest.

Immediately after the incident, Sebaggala turned the trigger on his head after seeing his fellow soldiers closing in on him and suspected that he was going to be shot or arrested.

Brig Richard Karemire, the UPDF and Defence Ministry Spokesperson remains tight lipped on details of the incident. However, sources say that Nabifo is on life support in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the African Union Mission Level Two hospital in the Somalia Capital-Mogadishu.
