Youths subscribing to Uganda Young Democrats-UYD have Wednesday unveiled a new campaign dubbed ‘Walk for Justice’ aimed at mobilizing millions of people to escort the Kyadondo East legislator, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine from Luzira Prisons to Buganda Road court on Thursday.

During a press conference this afternoon, Robert Mugambwa the UYD Secretary General, told journalists that they have mobilized people to march from several parts of the city center to Luzira prisons and back.

On Monday, Kyagulanyi was sent to Luzira on charges relating to the social media tax (OTT) illegal protests on July 11th 2018.  He is expected to appear at Buganda Road Magistrate’s court tomorrow Thursday for Bail application.

Now, UYD members say their presence will compel court to release the legislator.

Labison Kijambu the UYD vice President told the press that they are ready to implement their plan, describing Kyagulanyi’s prosecution as malicious because of his fight against injustices by the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM government under President, Yoweri Museveni.

However, Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says police will not allow the planned procession to take place.

“Escorting Suspects from Luzira prison is done by well-trained officers. It is not done by lay people. We want to warn whoever does so that he will be arrested and taken to courts of law for prosecution” he warned.
