The Constitutional court ruling on Age limit petition should be upheld since the justices delivered it after considering evidence, Justice Arach Amoko of the Supreme Court has said.

Police and sister security agencies remain heavily deployed at the Supreme Court as judges deliver the long-awaited judgement in the consolidated Age Limit Appeal.

Court premises located at Upper Kololo are under guard by Police from the counter-terrorism unit, plain-clothed and uniformed officers.

The Chief Justice Bart Katureebe and other Justices of the Supreme Court; Lillian Tibatemwa, Eldad Mwangusya, Opio Aweri, Jotham Tumwesigye, Arach Amoko, Paul Kahaibale Mugamba are sitting to rule on the petition filed by Male Mabirizi, and 6 MPs. Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Laudislaus Rwakafuzi are the lawyers for petitioners.

Some of the politicians present in court MPs Odonga Otto, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Abed Bwanika, the President of the Peopl's Development Party and Norbert Mao, the Democratic Party President among others.

The appeal stems from a Constitutional Court judgment delivered by a panel of five judges Cheborion Barishaki, Elizabeth Musoke, Alphonse Owiny-Dollo and Remmy Kasule, in 2018 who upheld the amendment of the constitution in which Parliament lifted the cap on the presidential age only Justice Kenneth Kakuru dissented in his judgment.

Court this morning heard that Lawyer Mabirizi was moved from the bar seat to be with other petitioners because he has not yet attained his post graduate diploma and therefore does not deserve to practice.

Mabirizi had complained that it was wrong of the judges to stop him from sitting with other lawyers and sent to sit with other petitioners. Justice Amoko said until he has officially become a member of the bar, Mabirizi’s place is with petitioners.
