President Yoweri Museveni is today Friday expected to officially open a retreat for the ruling National Resistance Movement, NRM parliamentary caucus after failing to do the same on Thursday.

The president who was supposed to open the retreat on Thursday evening changed his mind at the last minute due to mysterious reasons.

Mr. Museveni who is also chairman of the ruling NRM party arrived at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi where members had been waiting for him on Thursday evening. His chopper however failed to land due to too much dust in the area, he was forced to go back in the air until some water was poured at the landing area.

However, MPs who were waiting in a hall attentively were later disappointed when they were told to have diner and sleep as the President had decided to rest and see them on Friday morning.

The National Chairman will give a keynote address on "Building a Resilient and an Intergrated Self-Sustaining Economy" during a session chaired by  Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugund.

On Thursday, former Executive Director of Uganda Investment Authority Dr. Maggie Kigozi  and businessman Patrick Bitature took the Legislators and other invited members through the Lessons, Challenges and Prospects of Investment Promotion.

The Retreat which will close on Wednesday March 20th is expected to among others help participants to appreciate the performance of Government in the implemenration of the major sectors of the NRM Party Manifesto 2016-2021.

Government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa told journalists on Thursday that the Retreat runs under the theme, Industrialisation for Job Creation and Shared Prosperity

The party has not held a parliamentary caucus retreat since 2026 though it is an annual event. Hon. Nankabirwa told journalists that this was due to budget constraints. She adds that more than 54 independent MPs have joined them.

Asked what they expected, several MPs said they wanted to dicys extensively the CEC decision to abolish use of ballot papers during party primaries. Another source also revealed that they want to reintroduce the Sugar Bill which had been shelved after money allegedly exchanged hands.
