Bugweri county member of parliament Hon. Abdu Katuntu has Monday handed  over office as the Chairperson of the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises to Kawempe legislator Hon.Mubarak Munyagwa.

Katuntu in his handover speech asked Munyagwa to deal with backlog and focus on institutions with huge budgets to get value for money.

Munyagwa was appointed COSASE chairperson by Betty AOL the leader of opposition in Parliament. Hon. Aol also appointed Lubaga North MP Hon. Kasibante Moses as Munyagwa's deputy. This appointment was however rejected by the speaker Rebecca Kadaga who said the legislator had already been appointed to a different committee.

The takeover which has been long overdue had caused controversy due to the delays. The delays were caused by the Bank of Uganda probe that finally ended on Friday last week.

While accepting an office, hon. Munyagwa said Katuntu's shoes were too big to fill but promised to make the best of his time as chairman.

Munyagwa promised to handle all matters before him judiciously, working with all Committee members in unison.

"We promise to  engage other stakeholders in bid to promote accountability in Uganda " Munyagwa said.

Hon. Katuntu promised to always be available for any consultations and any technical support for the good of the countr. But, Munyagwa asked not to be compared to his predecessor as has been the case since his appointment to the committee.

"The public and the media should desist from comparing Hon. Abdu Katuntu and I, because we are two different individuals with totaly different capacities" he begged.
